Australia’s 7-Eleven has launched two food-focused pilot stores in Melbourne and Sydney with the intent of rolling them out across all of Australia’s 7-Eleven stores, Franchising.com reports.

The new stores will offer 45 freshly prepared food products, including cooked-to-order breakfasts (ham and cheese croissants and toasted sandwiches) and hot lunch options (piadinas, pizza, soups and salads). The company will employ trained food staff to prepare and serve the hot foods.

Additionally, 7-Eleven has teamed up with coffee producer Lavazza to offer barista-made coffee at the two stores.

“As people are becoming increasingly busy, working longer and more irregular hours, we’ve seen an increase in customers opting for on-the-go food and drink,” said Warren Wilmot, CEO of 7-Eleven Stores Australia. “Each of the two concept stores has been developed to meet this need. By launching in high foot-traffic CBD locations, there’ll be plenty of passing customers to road test the offering,” he said.

“Following the success of our Munch range this is the next step on our journey to provide customers with a delicious, great value food offer within the convenience format,” Wilmot added. “We plan to leverage our position as a major branded chain to deliver a consistent, great quality food offer across our total store network.”

The Melbourne store opened last month and the Sydney store is scheduled to open early next month. Both stores will be managed by existing franchisees.
